Maria Sharapova Meets Lindsay Davenport In Wimbledon

Like Anna Kournikova, seventeen year-old Maria Sharapova is beautiful and a native of Russia. Unlike Kournikova, Sharapova has "got game."

Sharapova is the youngest player to make the Wimbledon semifinals since Kournikova met Martina Hingis in 1997 when both were sixteen. Hingis beat Kournikova in the semis and won the title that year.

Hingis has retired, and Kournikova has been off the tour for months with chronic injuries.

Enter Maria Sharapova, who takes on Lindsay Davenport, the 28-year-old American playing in her 12th, and possibly last, Wimbledon. The winner of the Sharapova-Davenport match will meet the winner of the other semifinal match, which features Serena Williams, of the United States versus Amelie Mauresmo, of France.

In the States, coverage of the women's semifinals begins at 8 a.m. Eastern Time on ESPN. That means that those of us on the West Coast can catch the match at 5 a.m. and still make to it to work on time!
