ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) after the suspension of the high court’s order has decided to hold the elections of its office bearers on 20th November.
According to President PTF Dilawar Abbas, the decision has been taken after the judgment of Lahore High Court’s Justice Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry according to which the decision regarding the appointment and imposition of the ad hoc committee on the tennis body is being over ruled and the elections will be held in the normal manner on the will or decision of its members.
The issue started when Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) dissolved the tennis council on October 15 and declared it defunct or inoperative after which it appointed an ad hoc committee on its own discretion to carry on the affairs. The ad hoc committee was headed by Federal Minister for Culture Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jillani.
Later on October 17 a special general meeting of PTF members was called on to discuss the matter and decide future actions regarding the imposition and dissolving of the federation.
In the meeting it was unanimously decided that PSB’s decision of appointment of ad hoc committee will be challenged in the court of law for determining the worthiness of PSB’s decision. The future agenda announced also included that the elections of the federation will be conducted as per schedule on 20th of November whereas the affiliated units were directed to hold their own elections individually.
According to the info received Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Lawn Tennis Association and Islamabad Tennis Association will elect their new office-bearers as per the country’s apex body decision.
Dilawar Abbas who has already successfully enjoyed the position of President PTF 2 times said that after the court’s judgment we will follow our announced program and elections will be held as per schedule.
When asked about his selection as the President PTF again for the 3rd time Dilawar said that after 18th amendment passage he has no bar on him to be appointed as the president but it is the decision of the members and if they want me to at the most important seat of the federation, I will definitely think about it.
