The Italian defender underwent the standard medical examinations on Tuesday and has the option of extending his stay at the Mercedes-Benz-Arena at the end of the season.
"It's important for us to sign an experienced player in this position who can help us with immediate effect," said sporting director Horst Heldt. The new signing was introduced to the squad and head coach Christian Gross over lunch.
"The team is better than our position shows"
The 26-year-old was tired but happy on Tuesday morning as he disembarked the coach at the team's winter training camp in La Manga at around 13:00 CET having flown into Alicante an hour earlier.
"It was a long day and a long journey, but I'm happy to be here now," said the 5 ft 10 defender. "I'm looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga. VfB are not in a position that a club of their stature should be at the moment. The team is better than our position shows."
