Cristiano Ronaldo: Portugal shall defeat Albania

After a disappointing Champions League final in Rome, Cristiano Ronaldo relaxed for some few days in Sardinia. The Portugal skipper then returned to his country to join the rest of the national team players in preparation ahead of their world cup qualifier away to Albania.

Despite being grouped among lower oppositions like Albania and Hungary, the 2004 European Championship runners-up are struggling to make their way through to the promise land. Six points from five games, and seven points behind the group’s joint leaders Denmark and Hungary, explain that Portugal have a lot of mountains to climb before they can qualify to the finals of the World Cup in South Africa.

Portugal’s mission to reach South Africa 2010 has become extremely tough, and Captain Cristiano Ronaldo knows how important it is to win in Albania on Saturday. Speaking to the media earlier in the week, Cristiano Ronaldo explained Portugal’s situation and added that the team has to leave up to expectations before it is too late.

“The national team, as well as the clubs, goes through tough moments and that is what happened to us some months ago, and we were also out of luck,”

“Great players live under pressure and we must give a positive answer because we all know that, if we don’t win, it will get more difficult to qualify for South Africa. If we don’t beat Albania, we will miss the World Cup.”
